Pay freeze will 'undermine' dental profession confidence |
The decision by the government to give a 0.9 per cent uplift on contract values to dental professionals will undermine the industry's confidence, according to a sector expert.Dr John Milne, chair of the British Dental Association's General Dental Practice Committee, told Dentistry.co.uk that a requirement to make efficiency savings in order to offset increases in expenses will also not help oral health professionals. "General dental practitioners in England face a difficult and uncertain future and will be disappointed by this award for a number of reasons. The costs they incur to provide care are soaring both as a result of regulatory changes and the poor position of sterling," he told the source. He added that while dental professionals have engaged "actively and willingly" with the Steele Review, the announcement over pay freezes will "undermine" the industry. Along with the dental industry, workers such as civil servants, NHS managers, judges and GPs will all have their pay frozen. ![]() |
